Management of plantar puncture wounds in children.

Puncture wounds are a common cause of minor trauma in children. These injuries can lead to serious infectious complications if not managed properly, especially if there is involvement of the plantar surface of the foot.1 There is a striking paucity of data in the pediatric literature on the management of plantar puncture wounds. This review on the evaluation and management of plantar puncture wounds in children is based on existing data in children, extrapolation of appropriate adult data, and our own experience in clinical practice.
